A Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) is a professional undergraduate degree in business administration awarded by universities and colleges across India after three/four years of completion .The credits required to complete the degree are maximum 120, divided among N number of courses . This degree is designed to provide basic knowledge of business ethics and management to students interested in business administration.
It covers various courses and core subjects including management, economics, finance, marketing, human resources etc. The curriculum includes theoretical knowledge along with practical application, often opening option for specialization. The skills developed through this professional course are critical thinking, effective management, problem solving and communication skills.
Admission
The admission process differs from university to university, so in order to get through the admission process in the first attempt; one is advised to select their preferences for college and course according to their interest and academic profile. The admission process is of three types: national level exams – conducted by a national testing agency (NAT), college/university specific exams –conducted by a particular institution, merit-based admission.
• National Level Exams
i. Common University Entrance Test (CUET) - this exam is conducted once a year by NAT, it aims to provide a standardized platform for admissions to undergraduate programs in numerous central, state, deemed, private universities. The minimum educational qualification for candidates is that they have completed their class 12th or be appearing in it, from a recognized board. Minimum aggregate of 50% marks in 12th are a requirement for general category students, while there can be some relaxation for reserved category students. Students from science, commerce and arts stream are eligible, but some universities might ask for specific subjects like accountancy, mathematics, commerce and business studies in class 12th. The exam pattern of CUET is changed slightly every year but two main papers are; Section IA of languages to test general proficiency in the chosen language, Section II consists of domain specific subjects like economics, mathematics, business studies and accountancy, Section III is general test (GT) which assesses general aptitude, logical reasoning and numerical ability. The types of questions are MCQs and time duration for each exam is 45 minutes.
ii. AIMA UGAT – where AIMA stands for All India Management Association and UGAT means Under Graduate Aptitude Test. It is a national level exam conducted by AIMA for admissions into various undergraduate programs such BCA, BBA, integrated MBA, BHM, and B.COM etc. Candidates who have completed class 12th or be appearing in it, is the minimum educational qualification. Most institutions participating in AIMA UGAT require minimum aggregate of 50% marks in 12th; this criterion differs from college to college, so the best is to check specific college’s criteria. The exam is primarily conducted in Paper-Based Test (PBT) mode with time duration of 120 minutes for BBA, BCA, and IMBA programs where the types of questions are MCQS. The UGAT exam is divided into four sections, namely, English Language, Data Analysis, Reasoning and General Intelligence, General Knowledge.
• University Specific Exams
i. IPMAT (Integrated Program in Management Aptitude Test) – this exam is conducted by IIMs (Indian Institute of Management) across various states in India such as Indore, Ranchi, Jammu and Rohtak. They offer integrated program in management i.e. BBA+MBA.
ii. SET (Symbiosis Entrance Test) – this test grants admission into various Symbiosis International colleges, including SCMS, Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies in Pune.
iii. NMIMS NPAT (National Test for Programs after Twelfth) – Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies conducts this exam for admission in highly valued courses of BBA and integrated MBA.
iv. Several other exams are BUMAT, MAHE, GGSIPU, CHRIST CUET, LPUNEST, etc.
Syllabus
The BBA syllabus is structured to impart foundational knowledge of business functions. While the subjects may vary from university to university, the common subjects are:
1. Managerial Economics
2. Financial Accounting
3. Business Communication
4. Business Mathematics and Statistics
5. Business Law
6. Business Ethics and Corporate Governance
7. Human Resource Management, etc.
Specializations are generally offered in post graduate that allows students to focus on a particular area of interest such as Finance, Marketing, Logistics, Data Analysis, Data Management, etc.
Eligibility Criteria
The minimum eligibility criteria to join BBA undergraduate program in India is completion of Class 12th from a recognized board. The minimum marks required is class 12th varies from college to college; a top tier college may ask for percentage between 80-95%, while lower rank college may grant admission to students with above 60%.
BBA Colleges in India and their Fees
The fees for the entire program duration is influenced by many factors such as the type of institution (private, government or state), the location of the institution, accreditation and affiliation, placement records, specialization and many more.
Some of the top colleges in India for Bachelor in Business Administration are:
1. Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies (SSCBS), Delhi University- reputed college of Delhi University with a low fees of total rupees 74,875 approximately, for three years.
2. Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) affiliated colleges – the fees generally range from rupees 40,000 to 1.5 lakhs per year.
3. NMIMS Anil Surendra Modi School of Commerce, Mumbai – the total tuition fees for three year BBA degree is approximately rupees 9.75 lakhs to 14 lakhs.
4. Christ University, Bangalore – the fees for three year program can be somewhere between rupees 6 lakhs to 8 lakhs.
5. Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies (SCMS), Pune- the fees for total duration is approximately around rupees 11.52 lakhs.
