MCC Counseling Rounds Explained
The counseling is carried out over multiple rounds. Let’s clarify the difference between counseling rounds:
1.Round 1 - New registration, payment of fees, filling in choices & locking, seat allotment, and reporting to the allotted college.
2.Round 2 - The same procedure. Students who get a seat in Round 1, and those students who did not get a seat in Round 1, may participate for an upgraded position.
3.Mop-Up Round - Conducted for Deemed/Central Universities, AIIMS, and JIPMER seats that remain empty after Round 2.
4.MCC Stray Vacancy Round - The final round. Conducted for vacant seats after Mop-Up. Candidates allotted here must not resign or upgrade a seat.
MCC Counselling Choice Filling & Locking
One of the key elements of the counselor process is the MCC counseling choice filling & locking process. The procedure is as follows:
• Candidates login to the MCC portal, and select colleges/courses preferred by students in order from first/favourite to last.
• Candidates may modify the choices selected multiple times before the closing date.
• Locking of choices is the process that enables you to submit your choices finally. If you forget to lock your choices, the system processes and locks your last saved choices.
• It is essential to search for the college cut offs for each college you have chosen, consider the area of each college and course preference before locking your choices. Full instructions are available at MCC Choice Filling Process.

• Exit with Refund - If you wish to withdraw prior to Round 2, you can receive a refund of your security deposit.
• In further rounds (Mop-up / stray) - withdrawal is not permitted.
Be sure to carefully check and review the MCC guidelines before departing.

AIQ vs. State Quota MCC Counselling
A common doubt is the difference between AIQ vs State quota MCC counselling.
• AIQ (All India Quota) - 15% of government MBBS/BDS seats are reserved for students from across India. The MCC conducts this process.
• State Quota – 85% of the seats will be reserved for candidates belonging to that state. Each state will conduct its counselling on its own.
• Candidates can apply to both an AIQ counselling and state quota counselling separately.
MCC stray vacancy round
The MCC stray vacancy round is the final chance to get a seat.
Highlights:
• Only candidates who registered with MCC and had not been allotted a seat in any previous round will be considered for stray MC seat allotment.
• All colleges will allot seats in order of merit.
• If they have been allotted a stray vacancy seat, they cannot withdraw, as with usual rounds.
